- Bradenton, Florida, United States
- My name is Kelly Harmsen and I've been a licensed Cosmetologist since 1991. Born and raised in Chicago Heights, Illinois now living in Bradenton, Florida and owner of my own hair & art salon. I started at eight years old working in my Dad's hair salon and loving it. While all of the other kids were reading Dr. Seuss I was readng Vidal Sassoon. After graduating from Beauty School I started assisting at a salon that offered additional education to further my career. I became heavily involved in RUSK after attending classes with my boss to watch them cut hair. I consider Irvine Rusk to be my biggest inspiration along with my Dad. I love what I do and if you come to visit me hopefully you will too. I specialize in cutting, corrective coloring, foiling and working with curly hair. I have very naturally curly hair myself and until you live with curly hair you don't understand it. I love helping someone to love their curly hair also.

Here are a few pictures from my client Nannette's beach wedding.. The week before the wedding I did some highlights in her hair so you can see the contrast in the updo. Instead of a traditional veil she opted for some crystal starfish that were placed on the side..she was a beautiful bride..

Here is my client Heather who wanted her hair cut short with pink color in her bangs. First I put two big sliced sections in the front and used Framesi 5MV & 5R with 30 volume. Left on 30 minutes. Then for the haircut I sectioned off the top and cut the sides and back short but leaving it soft around the perimeter. Then I cut the top and used the Rusk Alpha blades to break it up to take out some weight but leave the length. This cut can either be worn like in the pictures or sprayed up into a fowak for a very cool look.

Last Friday I had the please of working with Russet from Ecovogue 365 for the Fashion Couture Show at Sarasota Fashion Week. She is a designer and her clothes are amazing. The beautiful dresses at the bottom picture are all from Russet. You can visit her website at http://www.ecovogue365.com/. Here is some of my work that I did on one of the models. Her name is Liz Dobbins and she was so great. She sat there for a couple hours while I worked on her head. I created a headpiece made out of her hair with cotton as the base underneath so it wasn't too heavy for her. Then I used a crimper to create a textured basketweave effect on the outside. Here are the beginning to end photos.

Here is an angled bob that I cut. She has great hair. It's thick and straight. I used the RUSK Alpha, Gamma and Delta blades to cut and texturize it. Then I styled her hair with Jele Gloss and then finished her with Shining Spray which are both by RUSK too.

Here is a fowak that I did on a client. She is an art student and wanted something really wild. This was fun to do!!!
Here is my client Toni that just had her hair highlighted and cut. She had shorter hair and now we are growing out her layers towards a slightly stacked bob.
