About Me

My photo
Bradenton, Florida, United States
My name is Kelly Harmsen and I've been a licensed Cosmetologist since 1991. Born and raised in Chicago Heights, Illinois now living in Bradenton, Florida and owner of my own hair & art salon. I started at eight years old working in my Dad's hair salon and loving it. While all of the other kids were reading Dr. Seuss I was readng Vidal Sassoon. After graduating from Beauty School I started assisting at a salon that offered additional education to further my career. I became heavily involved in RUSK after attending classes with my boss to watch them cut hair. I consider Irvine Rusk to be my biggest inspiration along with my Dad. I love what I do and if you come to visit me hopefully you will too. I specialize in cutting, corrective coloring, foiling and working with curly hair. I have very naturally curly hair myself and until you live with curly hair you don't understand it. I love helping someone to love their curly hair also.

Base Color and Highlight

On my client Michelle I did her root touch-up and put some scattered foils in with a toner all over.   Then layered her hair to give her more movement.

Multi Color and Haircut

Here is my client Lisa that came in with 2 inches of outgrowth.  She's about 30% gray.  I did a touch-up on her roots and did a partial foil with a toner in between the foils.  Then I took some of the heaviness out of her hair by putting in some long layers.  The color turned out beautiful.

Haircut

This is a haircut I did yesterday.  I used the Halo technique by RUSK and then left the front long.  Using the Alpha blades I broke it up to release some of the weight.

RUSK Halo Technique and Angled Front

I did this haircut using the halo technique by RUSK and then all the hair from the middle of the ear and forward I left with a heavy angle that was broken up with the alpha blades to take out some weight but leave the length.

Another Three Dimentional Highlight and Angled Bob

For this client first I touched up her base color and then foiled her with three different colors.  Then I cut her angled bob and then broke it up using the RUSK Alpha and Gamma Blades.

This haircut I did using the RUSK Alpha blades along with my straight shears.

Anna Marie Island Beach Wedding Hair

Here are a few pictures from my client Nannette's beach wedding..  The week before the wedding I did some highlights in her hair so you can see the contrast in the updo.  Instead of a traditional veil she opted for some crystal starfish that were placed on the side..she was a beautiful bride..

Pixie Haircut With Pink Highlights In Front

Here is my client Heather who wanted her hair cut short with pink color in her bangs.  First I put two big sliced sections in the front and used Framesi 5MV & 5R with 30 volume.  Left on 30 minutes.  Then for the haircut I sectioned off the top and cut the sides and back short but leaving it soft around the perimeter. Then I cut the top and used the Rusk Alpha blades to break it up to take out some weight but leave the length.  This cut can either be worn like in the pictures or sprayed up into a fowak for a very cool look.
